I have been working as a freelance translator for the past 21 years. I do not own a university degree in translation/interpretation, but the multitude of translation projects I have worked on over the years has done more for my capacity as a translator than any degree could have ever done. Though French is my mother tongue, I have spent the last 21 years living both in French and English (my partner is an American citizen). However, keep in mind that it depends on the type, timing and length of the project. I agree to work for a lower rate when I work for NGOs for example. I always consider the rate to be an open dialogue between me and my partners.
