Hi, I am Olive, a reliable EN to FR (native) Freelance Translator with over four years of experience. I hold a Master's degree in translation and a Bachelor degree in bilingual letters. I am also a trained teacher (since 2007). My objective is not to transfer words from one language into another, but to make them meaningful to a whole different cultural audience, while taking into consideration the spirit and nuances of the original. As a language teacher, I know how to avoid the mistakes I ask my students to avoid. I have a 9 years experience, having translated more than a million words all in all in my career, not counting all the translations I do for fun because I just like it ! I have a degree in biological engineering, completed by my vast general culture and professional experience in leadership positions in various companies, which means I can handle very well any topic from medicine to finance and marketing through video games and social sciences. I'm originally from Belgium but I now live in Côte d'Ivoire, which means I can do translations localized for both European and African audiences. My mantra is : if it sounds good, then it is good. It is utmost important for me that the audience cannot guess that they are reading a translation : they must feel as if the document was originally written by a native speaker. That is my objective. I'm also very strict regarding to spelling and typography since French has its own specific rules on capitals, brackets, etc. You won't be disappointed.

I am a senior French translator (EN, ES and PT into FR) with 12 years of experience in economics, business, and legal translation (and 7 years of prior experience in IT services sales teams). I have a comprehensive knowledge of CAT and DTP tools and strong skills in text editing, terminology management and project coordination. I first graduated from a French Business School (EDHEC 1995) and worked as an IT services saleswoman for 7 years (sectors: aeronautics and defence; health industry). Then I quit my position to study translation for 3 years, graduated from the ESIT in 2007, and joined the French Ministry for the Economy and Finance as a translator the same year (after a competitive examination). In 2014, I joined the OECD French translation division (after another competitive examination) to work mainly on the BEPS Project (OECD/G20 project to fight tax evasion). In 2020, I started working as a freelancer, which allowed me to move from Paris to Normandy (life quality: +3000%).

For 23 years, my life and professional experiences (both in the private and public sectors) have given me expertise in many fields such as ICT, HR, organic agriculture, short circuits, alternative medicines, etc. I am a cyber-nomad who likes to discover and translation allows me to learn and share new knowledges to the greatest number of people. I've always had a passion for languages! Born in France, I grew up speaking French and learning English and German in school from an early age. I also touched on Italian, Spanish and Greek. But ultimately, my career led me to focus on English. I left France at the age of 30, stayed for 2 years in the USA, and have now been living in Canada since 2015. My background is scientific: I have several degrees in the biomedical and life sciences fields, including a Ph.D. in Biotechnology. I have over 10 years of experience in healthcare and research. During that time, I also offered translation services in my field as a secondary part-time activity. As of 2020, I am now a full-time translator English-to-French and French-to-English. My main interests remain in the medical/health sciences field, but I am also interested in a variety of other subjects that are not necessarily science related. I hold a MSc in Computer Science, Electrical engineering and Telecommunications from a leading French university and have worked for the last 15 years in various technological areas, including Cloud-based technologies (Amazon AWS, Salesforce.com), electronics, GPS and satellite software and hardware development. Freelancing gives me more time with my wife and three young boys and the flexibility to explore the world. It also allows me to work with people from all over the world and from different backgrounds. I have lived and worked (on location) in France, the Netherlands, Japan, UK, New Zealand, and New York, and am fully trilingual in English, French and Japanese and conversant in Spanish.
