Professional translator

I am a languages student from Northern Ireland, studying Spanish and Portuguese. I may not be fully qualified, but I am now looking to fill my time with more translation due to the fact that I had to return home during my Erasmus year due to the COVID-19 outbreak. I still am continuing with my classes from my host university (Porto, in Portugal) and am currently studying a translation module so I am familiar with CAT software and the proper protocol for translation.

I've been born to German-speaking Austrian parents but was raised in English-speaking Canada. Due to this fact and to the fact that I competed my Master's in Austria, I am fluent in both languages and am fond of translating from German into English. Since 2000, when I started my translator's career, I've managed to translate millions of words in a great range of fields, from fiction to medicine.

I offer over a decade of experience specializing in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian to English translation, localization, subtitling, and interpretation. Prior work includes translating for Google, The New York Times, A-list celebrities, Fendi, EU-funded research projects, National Geographic docuseries, UNICEF videos, Dario Gioè's Journey to the Center of a Millennial, and localizing marketing materials and websites for international hotel chains. Finally, I've interpreted for the United States Anti-Doping Agency, immigration attorneys, asylum seekers, market researchers, and medical patients.

John studied English Literature at Cambridge and has lived in Spain for thirty years gathering experience as a writer, translator, editor and voice artist. I have been working as a language specialist since 2000, initially working in ESL/EFL teaching and international test preparation before focusing on Spanish to English translation (legal, energy, water, wine, mining, among others).
