I taught English as a Foreign Language in St. Petersburg, Russia from 2006 to 2018. In my time there I translated Russian-English and edited a variety of texts including song lyrics, how to guides, business presentations, resumes, guided tours, website content and press blurbs.

I switched to translation after 20+ years of legal practice on 3 continents. Apart from translation proper, I offer professional localization, on-brand translation, and transcreation services. - I am the Russian/Ukrainian to English legal / oil & gas translator of choice at three dozen translation agencies and law firms on both sides of the Atlantic. - I have an impressive collection of Russian, Ukrainian, Kazakh, and Uzbek laws, codes of practice, and standards in English, translated by yours truly and/or my team members over two decades. The quality standard is much higher than that of “official” translations available on government websites. - I routinely translate over 200,000 words on a monthly basis (sustainable word count for legal material).

Due to the fact that I was raised in Malta and by mixed parents, I am fluent in English, Italian, Maltese and Russian. Along with that, I have basic knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese.

I have a M.A. degree in Russian language, literature and linguistics from the University of Arizona, and my translations are read by undergraduate university students across the United States in the pages of _The Russia Reader_ (Duke University Press, 2010). I have also completed three years of German-language study at the University of Arizona. I worked extensively for over four years on the Russian 2014 Winter Olympics Project by translating a variety of documents, ranging from press releases and brochures to technical construction diagrams of the Olympic facilities.

If you watched any of the English-language broadcasts of the Opening Ceremony on February 7, 2014, then you would have heard some of my translations of the speeches of officials as read by the TV commentators. I have also contributed translations of marketing materials that advance the business goals of major companies active in both Russia and Germany. For example, last fall I translated the annual report of a major Russia-based steel producer targeted at investors.
