I am a meticulous and dedicated French< >English and Swahili< >English translator with a Masters degree in Translation from the University of Nairobi. I have worked with translation agencies, local and international companies, NGOs, the UN and government agencies where I consistently delivered timely and accurate translations. In the 5 years where I have been in business, both as an in-house and a freelance translator, I have gained extensive experience in different fields such as commercial, legal, financial, technical and general translation. I am an advanced user of SDL Trados studio CAT tool, with proficient knowledge of Microsoft word, MemoQ, Across, Wordfast, among others.

My name is Vanessa Walsh and I'm currently working as a freelance translator and language teacher in Bavaria, Germany. I have an MA in Translation Sciences from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and a BA from Queen's University in Canada in Foreign Languages and Intl. Studies (French/German). I grew up in Ontario, Canada, and English is my mother language. I have many years of immersion in my source languages, years of uninterrupted translation experience, and an excellent command of English, my target language. I specialize in medical translation. Further experience includes literary, academic, website, and business/marketing translation, and I have translated several documents including novels, academic papers, scripts, business plans, and more, from FRA-ENG and DEU-ENG.

I also work with technical translations and/or post-editing.

I am a passionate linguist with many years of experience in translation and interpretation. I hold an M.Phil in French from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, with a specialization in Translation & Interpretation, and also a C1 from Alliance française of Madras. I work predominantly between English and French. I translate mainly literary, general, administrative texts as well as scientific articles and reviews. Winner of translation grant from Centre national du livre, Paris.

I am a practicing lawyer with both a civil law and common law degree.

I've been in translations/linguistics since 1997, millions of words, vast experience, a great lot of fields, I've worked for Google, Airbnb, governments (local and states), just name it. I'm fond of languages. I can speak English (of course), French, Russian, some German, Norwegian, Chinese and even Ukrainian. I've studied Icelandic and am familiar with Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and Faroese. Localization/CAT tools: starting from routine tasks such as bilingual files prep and post-processing and ending with deployment of custom-tailored translation memory servers using SVN or GIT technologies. Briefly, I love everything related to languages.

I'm a native English speaker (FR->EN(GB) and (EN AU), living just outside Paris. I was born in the UK, brought up in Australia and have lived in Italy, Germany and France. I became a freelance translator after working with UNESCO, ESSEC business school and then pursuing a successful 16-year career in the IT division of EURONEXT, the pan-European financial exchange. As well as general cultural, scientific, educational and business translation, I specialise in banking, finance, stock market, financial IT, marketing, heavy industry, building and construction, and road and maritime transport. I also translate website content, themes and plugins. I am a full member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (UK) and a Chartered Linguist. I have NAATI certification (Australia).
