My translation career encompasses diverse areas, from movie industry (translating for Hollywood film stars (Jon Voight, Sammi Davis) to translating for roughnecks on drilling rigs in Siberia. This hands-on experience in various occupations, combined with technical background in survey & mapping, allows me to produce accurate, precise translations of even the most complicated texts. I have been working as a freelance translator since 2006, with more than 6 million words translated to date. I first started my translation career in mid 1980-ies with a few odd translation / interpretation jobs of a few months each. I then went on to work as a staff translator for the first Soviet-US JV White Nights in 1990 and continued to pursue this career with several other JVs and US companies until 2006, when I became a full-time freelance translator. I do not have a linguistic education, but in the process of my education, working as a lecturer, a researcher and an IT manager (up to CIO), I very often had to apply my knowledge of English for reading and translating English literature and documentation. Since 2017, translation has become the main activity for me. In this work I always try to achieve a meaningful result. Machine translation is mostly not used, although occasionally I resort to it, if the subject allows. I intensively use the CAT-system tools: translation memory, glossaries, concordance search. In the search for translations of terms I use all available means taking into account the context. I can aloso translate into another direction (English) but it's a torture for me because I'm not native in it.
