Professional translator

I am Giovanni Santonastaso, at the moment based in South Italy. I am an interpreter and a translator and I can speak Italian, English, Chinese and French. I am a conscientious person who works hard and pays attention to detail. I'm flexible, quick to pick up new skills and eager to learn from others. I also have lots of ideas and enthusiasm.

As an English to Italian ProZ.com Certified PRO Network gaming, technical, and marketing translator (EN 15038) and Italian native speaker, I have been translating on a volunteer basis since 2012 (working on big projects since 2016) and professionally since 2020. I have experience in handling localization processes as a whole for text-heavy video games, as a translator (transcreation, proofreading, photo editing), LQE specialist, LQA tester, and localization project manager (file preparation, regex tagging, developer relations). 2,500,000 words translated, with a daily output of 4,500 words.

I am a freelance translator, Italian mother tongue. I hold a Master's Degree in Technical Translation and another one in Ecnomics. . I have got a good deal of experience translating technical/marketing texts and software, but also motorsports, cycling and tourism (from English, Spanish, and French into Italian). My average output is about 2200/2500 words/day (up to 3000, if needed, for rush jobs.) I believe in quality: this is why I always deliver thoroughly and double-checked translations, paying deep attention to style and terminology. Also, I translate only into my mother tongue (Italian), in order to ensure the best quality.

I started my career 21 years ago as in-house translator and PM at a translation agency based in Turin, Italy. After three years, I decided to take up the challenge and become a freelancer, in order to devote myself to those texts I was most interested in. My experience as PM gave me a deep insight into all aspects related to the translation process, thus I perfectly know and understand the needs and expectations of Project Managers whom I work with. I am able to work under pressure, and manage large volumes of work with no prejudice to quality. I am able to translate very technical texts, like instruction manuals for X-ray inspection systems, but also to use my creative side to produce translations of content marketing articles.

I finished University in 1999 and since then I have always worked in the translation field. I have good work relationships with some major global translation companies and I am used to working with a variety of offline and online CAT tools.
