My name is Guido Ballarini, I have 15 years of experience in the field as translator/editor from English to Italian and Italian proofreader. My mother tongue is Italian and I have lived for over 9 years in the United States and for 5 of these years I worked as a full-time in-house translator from English to Italian. In this period I honed my translator and CAT user skills to a very high level. I also have several years of experience as project manager, having run translation projects for over a dozen of languages for almost 3 years. Since 2007 I am a Freelance translator with hundreds upon hundreds of jobs completed and over 2 millions of words translated for a total of 15 years of experience in the field. I am a proficient user of TRADOS and Wordfast and I have completed a big project on SmartCAT so I can use it professionally too.

After graduating in Specialized Translation from Italy's Advanced School of Modern Languages for Interpreters and Translators, I spent several years working as a translator, interpreter, editor and language consultant for an NGO sponsoring medical and environmental research. I am now working as a freelance translator, editor, proofreader and language consultant. My clients include not-for-profit organizations, publishing houses and LSPs. I specialize in environmental issues, agriculture, agricultural technology, food & drink, medical texts and research (especially nutrition and endocrinology), botany, biology, cosmetics, and international organizations. I started my career 21 years ago as in-house translator and PM at a translation agency based in Turin, Italy. After three years, I decided to take up the challenge and become a freelancer, in order to devote myself to those texts I was most interested in. My experience as PM gave me a deep insight into all aspects related to the translation process, thus I perfectly know and understand the needs and expectations of Project Managers whom I work with. I am able to work under pressure, and manage large volumes of work with no prejudice to quality. I have been working as a translator since 2018, when I started to attend the Languages and Cultures for Tourism and International Mediation course at the University of Bari. I graduated with the highest grade (110 e lode) and started my specialisation at the University of Turin (a Translation course focusing on literary translation). I work from both English and French and I am fond of literature: novels, poetry, theatre are my highest aims.
