My name is Martin Sonia, a professional translator. I have been working with the GENGO team since 2014.

I'm a French mother tongue translator who's been in charge of performing translations with happiness and enthusiasm since the year 2000.

I am French and Swiss German, grew up and did a Law Phd in France and in French: French being considered as my mother tongue, even though I grew up in German, but anyhow… My Dad has had the opportunity to spend a few years in the States (Westchester County, NY) and we of course followed him. We visited the American school system (7th grade on my side) and learned English there. Wonderful experience! As for my professional experience, my unique international background allowed me to provide timely and professional legal services, such as conducting legal researches, drafting and reviewing legal documents, and providing legal advice. I am now looking forward to embrace this new challenge giving me a new start. I am a professional translator since 2012. I grew up in France in a Spanish family, so I learned very early both languages. I studied law in France and Spain so I can translate to both languages. I am a sworn translator before the Tribunal Judiciaire of Perpignan and often perform translations and interpretations for this institution in the legal field (hearings, confrontations, reports, court decisions etc ..) I translate websites, contracts, business presentations, products descriptions, medical records etc ....

I am a transparent, goal-oriented, and perfectionist professional with a positive perspective. I enjoy remote work and carefully follow instructions and I find it easy to work for long periods including during the night and maintain my attention to detail. That comes, of course, from having a genuine interest in Languages and Translation since I was a child and constant curiosity in researching different topics. I provide translation, retroversion, proofreading, transcription, and captioning services in general and specialized domains with appropriate technical resources. I would also like to add that I can handle deadlines just fine.

I am a senior French translator (EN, ES and PT into FR) with 12 years of experience in economics, business, and legal translation (and 7 years of prior experience in IT services sales teams). I have a comprehensive knowledge of CAT and DTP tools and strong skills in text editing, terminology management and project coordination. I first graduated from a French Business School (EDHEC 1995) and worked as an IT services saleswoman for 7 years (sectors: aeronautics and defence; health industry). Then I quit my position to study translation for 3 years, graduated from the ESIT in 2007, and joined the French Ministry for the Economy and Finance as a translator the same year (after a competitive examination). In 2014, I joined the OECD French translation division (after another competitive examination) to work mainly on the BEPS Project (OECD/G20 project to fight tax evasion). In 2020, I started working as a freelancer, which allowed me to move from Paris to Normandy (life quality: +3000%).
