My name is Martin Sonia, a professional translator. I have been working with the GENGO team since 2014.

I'm a versatile translator who can translate websites, articles, blog posts, e-books on just about any topics. I have done so for years for a number of distinctive clients about a plethora of different topics. I'm a French Canadian from the Gaspe Peninsula and grew up speaking both French and English. Therefore, I consider them both as my native languages. Going from one language into the other has literally become second nature to me. I take great pride in providing my clients with a translation that will feel as if it were originally written in the translated language, thus allowing those readers to have the same considerable experience as the ones reading the original document. I've entered the field of translation in 2016 after being involved in other activities after finishing my masters in Translation studies. So, it was somehow going back to my first love. Since that moment translating has become my main activity, working as a freelance translator with agencies and private clients ever since. In this globalized world, when connections are very important in every field, whether we talk about business, travel, private life or medical issue, I feel that translators are that bridge that allow people to get where they need or where they want. The diversity of documents and fields that I have the opportunity to work with as a translator make me appreciate the challenges and enrich my knowledge. I am currently enrolled in a Multilingual Master in Psycho- and Neurolinguistics at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). I studied French, Latin and English language and literature at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven). I also have studied medicine at the University of Liège (ULiège).

Translations

I was raised Trilingual in Haiti speaking French, Haitian Creole and English (Level C2). Fluent in Brazilian Portuguese (Level C1) for I have been living and studying in Brazil since 2017. I speak Intermediate Spanish (Level B2). Part time freelance translator since 2016 and have done work related interpretation on a daily basis since 2014. I am flexible and offer introductory rates for new clients.

Amateur translator but also interpreter. This gives me a certain ease in writing; if only to detect and render the nuances of each language. Rigour and reactivity, curiosity, culture, I am also moved when I read. I react first of all to the form, to the language that I judge cold, neutral or neat. Wooden language, technical language or passionate language: I take it into account and try to reproduce it as best I can.

I am a native French speaker with 25 years of experience in the field of translation. I specialize in creative translations also known as transcreations, helping global companies translate their brand's look & feel for French-speaking audiences. Over the years, I have had to sink my teeth into many complex and unfamiliar subjects, acquiring deep knowledge and expertise in fields as diverse as construction, CPG, nutrition, cosmetics, fashion & textiles, hospitality, toys, baby lifestyle, digital marketing, fintech, etc.

I am a passionate copywriter/translator with 18 years of experience in the digital communications industry. Experienced FR <>ENG translator and proofreader with technology and biomed specialities. Experienced with personal development, games, travel, dental ant other topics as well.

Freelance translator since 2003

I'm a professional French native translator/proofreader for more than 5 years and I do have a great multitasking experience from different projects that I handled in the past years from a freelancer to a local professional. I do manage fluently English and Spanish and I can handle projects from any of these language combinations.
